Ashton on Mersey 1s 11-17 Ashton under Lyne 2s

Conan Bligh returned from injury and was soon on the scoresheet after 10 minutes with  a try converted by Josh Pattison, Pattison then made a clear break from midfield and sprinted all the way to the line for a try he converted for 0-14.

The visitors then seemed to incur the wrath of the referee and conceded endless penalties, one of which was kicked to reduce the lead to 3-14 at HT.

Colt Jack Pietsch caught the eye with some illusive charges from second row always making good ground, but Mersey reduced the gap to 6-14 with a penalty. Ashton then lost two players in close succession to cards and were down to 13, but Pattison managed to kick a nervy penalty to make it 7-17.

The hosts managed a try late on with a blind side move, but with Bligh back on and Man of the Match Matt Baron working hard in defence, they held out for the win.

Ashton U12s 40-10 Broughton Park U12s
Ethan Sykes (5), Josh Tindall (3), Jacob Saies (2) Georgie Price (2) and Jono Isaac got the tries.

Ashton Colts had a rest weekend and now face Tarleton on March 24 in a plate quarter-final.
