Mickleover Sports 0-2 Hyde United

Hyde United returned to winning ways with a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory at Mickleover Sports.

Deane Smalley, who joined the Tigers as an emergency replacement for the suspended Chib Chilaka, nodded home from a corner on the stroke of half-time to put Hyde ahead, before Ross Daly scored the winner in the 70th minute with a drilled effort from outside the area into the top right corner.

The result leaves the Tigers ninth in the table and 11 points outside the play-offs, ahead of Saturday’s clash at home to 11th place Whitby Town.

Hyde entered the game looking to end a two-game losing run, and they started the fixture with real intent and purpose. The first chance of the game fell to the visitors’ Smalley, although goalkeeper Lewis King was on hand to thwart the danger.

The hosts had a chance of their own in the 16th minute, but when awarded a free-kick in a dangerous area, Mason Warren forced a decent stop from goalkeeper Peter Crook.

Crook was called into action in the latter stages of the first half, this time saving Kyle Carey’s shot.

Hyde absorbed the pressure well and created their own openings in the final few minutes.

Their pressure was rewarded with virtually the last piece of actio when from a corner, Smalley headed home from close range despite King getting a hand to the effort.

Sports had a chance to level matters in the second half through Shaquille McDonald, but both his efforts went begging.

The hosts were left to rue the missed chances when Hyde scored the winner in the 70th minute. Daly smashed home from 18 yards.
