The First Division Cup Third Round

Rylands 0-2 Avro

Avro have booked their position in the First Division Cup quarter-final with a 2-0 victory at Rylands.

James Hampson and Lee O’Brien’s side claimed a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon, thanks to Mike Stockdale in the 28thminute and Duncan Knott in the 40thminute.

The club will host Garstang in the next round at the Vestacare Stadium in February.

Saturday’s clash was always going to be a tight affair with both sides flying high in their respective divisions. Following a league and cup double last season, Avro have hit the ground running in the North West Counties First Division North and find themselves third in the table with ten wins, two draws and three defeats. Rylands have enjoyed similar success in the southern section and currently lie second in the table, just five points below leaders Abbey Hulton United but with four games in hand.

However, despite their glittering start to the season, which includes scoring 49 goals to date, the hosts were unable to break down the Avro defence and the visitors returned with their fifth successive victory in all competitions.

Avro return to league action on Wednesday with a home clash against St Helens Town.
