A woman in her 60s has died after she became trapped between a van and a gatepost in Ashton.

Police were called to Buttermere Road just after 3pm today (October 8th) and on arrival, officers found the woman in a critical condition. She had been trapped by a grey Mercedes Panel Van on her drive and sadly died as a result of her injuries.

The woman’s family have been informed and are being currently supported at this sad time.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is an awful set of circumstances where a family have lost their loved one.

“We are currently working to establish the cause of this incident and we don’t believe anyone else is involved. However, we need to speak to more witnesses and are currently talking to neighbours and those on the street at the time of the incident.

“While we remain at the scene the road will be closed.”
