Ashton-Under-Lyne is set to enjoy authentic Indian dance and music with “Thunderstruck”, a brand-new theatre production that brings two traditional epic stories, Diwali and Navaratri to life.

Thunderstruck is the brainchild of Ria Meera Munshi, who is the owner of multi-award winning Ri Ri’s Dance Academy in Manchester.

Ria, who is Ashton born and bred, wanted her first foray into theatre at the company to teach communities about Indian stories and culture, using clever sound design and digital video projections to immerse audiences.

She said: “These are really big, important tales, and we wanted to use unconventional spaces to bridge as many communities as possible with theatre.”

Supported by The Arts Council, Thunderstruck is touring across the North West, travelling to Preston, Bury, Ashton and then on to Bolton.

Bollywood is Ria’s speciality, having choreographed the routine that broke a Guinness World Record for the most people Bollywood dancing at the same time back in 2011. She started the academy the same year.

Thunderstruck, which features gorgeous dance numbers, poetic texts and drama will be at Shree Bharatiya Mandal, Indian Association in Ashton on the 30th September. There is a matinee performance at 3pm and evening showing at 7pm.

Tickets are £12 or £10 for concessions and available from Rushi Munshi at: 07940 759212 or Kantibhai Mistry at: 07432 287611
