A “prolific”burglar from Stalybridge has been jailed for six years after pleading guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday 4 September).

Stephen Fraser, 26, of Wasdale Terrace, Stalybridge pleaded guilty at Minshull Street Crown Court to five burglaries, one attempt burglary, and an aggravated vehicle taking.

In addition to being sentenced to six years in prison, he was also disqualified from driving for four years.

Fraser committed a string of burglaries over a 13 month period between April 2017 and May 2018, targeting the areas of Tameside, Stockport and North Manchester.

According to Police, he would break into homes through the back door and take  valuables including TVs, computers and handbags with purses inside. He also stole cars after taking keys from inside the home.

When arrested, Fraser replied “no comment” to all questions but analysis of Fraser’s phone data placed him at the scene of the burglaries.

Detective Sergeant Joseph Harrop from GMP’s Tameside borough said: “We have finally got Stephen Fraser exactly where he should be, in prison.

“He can no longer leave a trail of destruction and fear wherever he goes and can no longer steal from hardworking people for his own gains.

“Those who have been burgled will very often tell you that it is not having property stolen that is the worst bit, it’s the knowledge that someone invaded their home, whilst they were sleeping and left them feeling that they are not even safe in their own homes.

“I would like to thank Fraser’s victims for their patience while we built up our evidence, they have all shown phenomenal strength.

“Today is a good day, Fraser is in prison and the people of Tameside, Stockport and North Manchester can sleep that little easier.”
