Evo-Stik Premier Division

Buxton 1-0 Hyde United

Hyde were unable to build momentum from their emphatic 5-1 victory over Sheffield FC in the FA Cup and instead fell to a narrow 1-0 loss at Silverlands.

Liam Hardy’s goal in the 55th minute proved to be the difference between the sides, on a day which marked the official opening of the 4g pitch at the revamped stadium.

Buxton, who are now managed by former Ashton United, Stalybridge Celtic and Glossop North End managers Paul Phillips and Steve Halford, started the game brightly and created a few openings.

However, Hyde were equal to the threat and neither side broke the deadlock before the half-time whistle.

The introduction of Bradley Grayson in the early stages of the second-half proved to be the catalyst for Buxton’s opener.

After slicing open the Hyde defence with a fine pass, Hardy took advantage and drilled an effort from 20 yards into the back of the net. Hyde did have a chance to equalise soon after, though Tom Pratt could only shoot wide of the target.

As the game was entering its dying stages, Callum Chippendal had a chance to put the game to bed for Buxton, but after his attempt was cleared of danger, Hyde started a counter attack down the right wing but Meade came to the rescue with a great tackle.

In other news, Hyde have discovered their opponents for the FA Cup first qualifying round. The Tigers will make the trip to Evo-Stik West outfit, Colne.

The game  is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 8.

The winner of each tie will recieve a prize fund of £6,000 – double the amount of last season –  and a place in the second qualifying round, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 22.
