Arcades Shopping Centre in Ashton got into the spirit of Christmas over the recent holiday period.

They hosted an online competition giving two lucky shoppers the chance to nominate a loved one to win a prize and make a donation to a deserving local cause.

The first winner was Roy Nussey who was nominated by his loving daughter, Karen Shaw. Roy is known for his dedication to the local community and his church, as well as having such a selfless heart when it comes to caring for others. Karen chose to donate £100 to Tameside Animal Shelter.

Greg Deakin was the second nominee to receive a Christmas hamper and donation. Greg was nominated by his partner, Kerry Bradley, for his selfless acts of kindness and continuous help for everyone around him through difficult times. The second £100 donation went to end of life care charity, Willow Wood.

Lynne Picken, Centre Manager at the Arcade Shopping Centre was delighted to read the touching entries, she said: “The Gift of Giving competition saw numerous heart-filled entries which were a delight to read.

“We would like to congratulate both Roy and Greg for winning and are delighted we could donate funds to such commendable causes.”
