Gilcryst Cup quarter final

Heyside 1-3 Wythenshawe Amateurs

Heyside’s journey in the Gilcryst Cup came to an end in a 3-1 loss to Wythenshawe Amateurs on Saturday.

Given the two sides repective league positions, Wythenshawe were always favoured to win the tie and so it proved on the afternoon, as goals from David Wright, Joel Aitkenhead and Rico Colou booked Amateurs a place in the semi final.

Following the loss, Heyside boss Matthew Wheelton said his side paid the price for a poor fjrst half. Speaking to Reporter Sport, he said: “We were two nil down at half time but we pulled one back shortly after the re-start.

“We had a number of opportunities to level matters but then conceded a third.

“Credit must be given to Wythenshawe. They’re a very fit side who were good value for their win”.

Heyside return to Manchester Premier League action this weekend with a trip to Bolton County. When the two sides met earlier this season, Heyside ran out 5-2 winners.
