Stalybridge Celtic 2-2 Hednesford Town
Att – 389

A late Hednesford goal denied Celtic a more than deserved three points on Saturday afternoon. Although they deserved the three points a point at least keeps Celtic’s good form up, where they have lost only once in seven league games. Celtic started the stronger and Jake Charles had two efforts from distance saved well by the impressive Wren. on 37 minutes and with their first real attempt on goal the visitors took the lead against the run of play. Fitzgibbon was put threw from a Lawrie pass, the winger then hit home from an acute angle past Walton.

Celtic continued to push in the second half but Hednesford looked like they might weather the storm. That was until Connor Hughes chased down a lost cause to win a corner on 79 minutes. From the resulting corner Dickinson knocked a header down to the far post for Wolfenden to prod home from close range. The goal had Celtic’s tails up and three minutes later they took the lead. Hughes did well down the right flank to tee up Charles in the box. Charles in turn calmly picked put Wolfenden in the box and the striker picked up his second goal after finishing under pressure.

Celtic looked to have seen the game out but with only seconds left on the clock Thorley got on the end of a cross to tap in from yards out. Anguish for Celtic but a point they perhaps would have taken before kick off. Their impressive upturn in form in 2018 continues.
