Avro 5-1 Rochdale Sacred Heart

Avro maintained their unbeaten run with a 5-1 victory against last season’s champions, Rochdale Sacred Heart.

Owing to postponements elsewhere, the result means Avro top the table on 43 points, two points above second place Wythenshawe Amateurs.

After a rusty first-half that ended 0-0, Avro upped their game and took the lead through Liam Bennion.

Chrissy Howell made it 2-0 after lobbing the keeper, before Mike Stockdale added a third with a towering header.

Avro continued to apply the pressure and made it four though Duncan Knott. Meeting a cross from the right, Knott converted from close range.

Stockdale put the icing on the cake after nodding home his second of the game to make it 5-0.

However, the visitors managed to grab a consolatory effort after beating Karl Stone in net.

Like the rest of the teams in the division, Avro are without a league fixture this weekend, although they return to action on Saturday 30th December at 6th place Royton Town.

When the two sides previously met in August, Avro ran out 3-2 winners, thanks to goals from Michael Stockdale, James Hampson and Duncan Knott.

Due to recent postponements, the forthcoming tie will mark the first time that Royton have played for four weeks.

In other news, the club has been drawn against Rochdale Sacred Heart in the Gilgryst Cup quarter-final. The game will be played at the Vestacare Stadium on Saturday 3rd February, kick-off 2pm.
