A highly-rated referee from Ashton will take charge of his fifth Premier League game on Saturday (December 2).

Chris Kavanagh, who hails from Manchester but lives in Tameside, will take charge of Everton’s clash with Huddersfield Town at Goodison Park (kick-off 15:00 GMT).

The 30-year-old impressed during three years in the Football League and made his top-flight debut in Southampton’s 1-0 win at West Brom back in April before gaining promotion to the Select Group over the summer.

He had already overseen Brighton’s 3-1 win over West Brom at the Amex Stadium and Burnley’s goalless draw with Huddersfield Town at Turf Moor, in which he correctly booked Terriers forward Rajiv van La Parra for diving – both in September.

Last weekend, Kavanagh put in another good display in Watford’s 3-0 win over Newcastle at St James’s Park.

It will be the first time he will take charge of back-to-back Saturday top-flight games.

Overall, in his four Premier League matches to date, Kavanagh has issued 14 yellow cards but is yet to send off a player or award a penalty.

He will be assisted on Merseyside by linesmen Gary Beswick and Mick McDonough, while Mike Dean – who will referee Manchester City’s game against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday – will be the fourth official.
