Royton Town have progressed to the fourth round of the Lancashire Shield after beating current holders Burscough Richmond 2-0 on Saturday.

Both goals were scored in the first-half. James Done put the hosts ahead before Josh Henthorn scored what turned out to be the winning goal shortly after.

Royton return to league action this weekend at Old Altrinchamians, who are currently rooted to the foot of the table, having collected just four points from their opening 12 matches.

Royton on the other hand are handily placed in 7th spot, having collected 17 points from their opening 12 games.

They have so far won five, drawn two and lost five, scored 24 and conceded 26.

The two sides met three times last season, and Royton came out on top in each fixture.

They won 2-1 in August 2016, before backing it with a 2-0 victory in October. They also won 3-0 in the Gilcryst Cup.
