Chadderton 4-2 Nelson

Chadderton came from behind twice to earn a 4-2 victory over Nelson in the North West Counties First Division.

Ryan Shenton and Matthew Buckley scored two apiece to help Chaddy to their first victory in six league outings.

Victory has pushed the club to 13th in the table on 14 points, having won five, drawn two and lost five of their opening 13 games.

The visitors fielded a strong side and started the game well. Their efforts were rewarded in the 17th minute when a corner from the right was headed home with real conviction by Alberto Seidi.

Had it not been for a lack of accuracy in front of goal, Nelson would have doubled their lead just minutes later. After exchanging a number of neat passes, Patrick struck a long range effort which flew just over the bar.

Having absorbed the pressure well, Chadderton’s resilience was rewarded on the stroke of half-time when Shenton scored a long range goal.

As the conditions deteriorated in the second-half, so did Chadderton’s luck.

In the 55th minute, the referee was left with no choice but to award a penalty after Alberto was brought down inside the box. Patrick subsequently took to the spot and sent the keeper the wrong way.

Despite falling behind for a second time in the fixture, Chaddy responded well and found themselves level just 12 minutes later. An in swinging corner was powered home into the top left corner by Buckley.

The equaliser gave Chadderton a much-needed lift and they eventually took the lead for the first time just eight minutes later. A powerful free-kick from 20 yards hit the bar and appeared to roll to safety. However, the loose ball was picked up on the right wing and crossed into the near post for Buckley to sweep home from close range.

In a bid to force an equaliser in the final few minutes, Nelson applied the pressure and caused a number of problems. However, the visitors tasted defeat for the eighth time this season when Chadderton scored with four minutes left.

After picking the ball up 30 yards out, Shenton’s deflected effort flew over the keeper and into the net.
