Police are appealing for information after a three people were threatened with an axe at a house in Gorton on Friday.

Sometime between late Friday night (July 14th) and early Saturday morning (July 15th), a man in his fifties and two of his friends were in his kitchen on Aylesbury Avenue when three men stormed through the back door.

One was holding and axe and another had a crowbar; all were wearing dark clothing. The two friends were told to get down on the floor while the homeowner was threatened with the weapons and repeatedly asked where his money was.

He was hit in the left knee with the axe and one of his friends hit in the head while the offenders rummaged through the house before leaving empty handed.

Detective Constable Jacqui O’Hara of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “Fortunately, the three victims in this case escaped without any serious injury in what must have been an absolutely terrifying attack.

“While we do not have a further description of the offenders at this time, I’d ask people who saw any men acting suspiciously in the area that evening to contact us, we hope someone would have noticed someone carrying an axe in particular.

“Your home is a place you should feel most secure and thanks to these reckless criminals, this man and his friends have had this security taken away from them.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4502 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
