Newton 153 all out Stalybridge 136 all out

Stalybridge St Paul’s fell to a narrow defeat on Saturday in the local derby vs Newton

Newton won the toss and chose to bat on a sweltering day, but there were certainly still things in the track for the bowlers.

That proved to be the case as Stalybridge’s bowlers kept a tight line to bowl Newton out for 153. Adam Harwick and Gary Sandiford picking up 3 wickets each.

Richard Wright then held firm to pick up 25 but an all-too-familiar batting collapse left Stalybridge floundering at 64 for 6. Richard Wilde (48) and Rob Mallet (27) then gave the chase some impetus, but it was not to be as SSP fell short on 137 all out.

Stalybridge 2nds continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 137 run vs Hadfield. James Beswick with an excellent 82.

This weekend sees Stalybridge 1sts go to Whaley Bridge whilst the 2nds host the same team. The 1sts then travel to Hazel Grove on Sunday in the Bissenden Cup ¼ final.
