5 A Day in Stalybridge has been broken into for the second time in three months.

The fresh fruit and veg store on Melbourne Street had its door smashed at around 2:40am on Sunday. The thief stole two charity boxes, including one for the air ambulance, containing around £50.

The culprit was caught on CCTV and is described as a white male, over 30, who was wearing a dark hoodie, light trousers and converse trainers.

5 A Day, on Melbourne Street on Stalybridge, has been vandalised twice in the space of three months, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident although they have yet to make an arrest.

Back in January, thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused when vandals mindlessly smashed the doors and windows of the property without attempting to get into the shop.

Corinne Ladis, from 5 A Day, said despite the cost, they will be looking to invest in higher security measures. “We’re going to have to increase our security. We’re looking to put grills and shutters up as well as increasing our CCTV.

“It’s very, very expensive but we can’t let this keep happening.”
