Police seek hero who thwarted bag snatch from Mossley pensioner

Manchester Road, Mossley close to the spot where a 70 -year-old lady was dragged to the floor by a thug trying to steal her handbag

 

 

Police are seeking a Good Samaritan who stepped in to thwart a robbery and then chased after the thug who had attempted to snatch a handbag belonging to a 70-year-old woman in Mossley.

The pensioner was dragged to the floor and then pulled along the ground by the male offender, as she refused to let go of her bag.

The robber was then disturbed as the passer – by, who came to the woman’s aid, frightened away the would be robber, who ran off along the canal towpath, pursued by the passer-by, described by the police as a “real have a go hero”.

The attack happened close to the Chutney Massala restaurant on Manchester Road, Mossley, at 10.30 pm on Friday 3/3/17.

Not content with disturbing the robber, the Brave Samaritan then pursued him along the canal  tow path as the thug fled in the direction of the Old Fire Station and the Tollermache Arms pub, then along the canal tow path to make good his escape.

The man who had bravely intervened, then disappeared without giving his details and now police would very much like to hear from him in order to get a better description of the robber.

The lady meanwhile is understood to have suffered scrape marks and bruising to her head and she was taken to hospital for an overnight stay .
