Stalybridge Celtic’s fate was all but sealed with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Worcester City on Saturday.

It is now just a matter of time before their Evo Stik Premier status is confirmed. In a season to forget for the club, May cant come quick enough now as the club look to rebuild and give themselves a fighting chance at promotion next season.

In what was a must win game Celtic started brightly enough. Darren McKnight hitting a shot from distance that tested Vaughan in the Worcester goal. Celtic were probing but as with most of this season they lacked any cutting edge. Left back Danny Wisdom was proving to be the best player on the field by some distance. His defensive play was superb but his attacking play proved to be Celtic’s main threat.

The only goal of the game came just after the break. A misplaced header by Morton was picked up by Jordan Murray who raced through on goal and slotted the ball home. A goal out of nothing but a goal that proved to be a dagger to Celtic hearts.

Celtic look bereft of attacking ideas and never really looked like leveling let alone winning the game which they had to do. Out of nowhere they did hit the woodwork through at Matt Regan header. But is wasn’t to be and Celtic whimpered to defeat. A sorry final nail in Celtic’s survival coffin. The rebuilding job starts now.
