Police have found a body believed to be that of Michael Leadbetter missing since Febuary 26th

Police searching for missing Mossley man, Michael Leadbetter, have reported that they have found a body shortly before 1.40pm on Thursday 16 March 2017.

They have been searching for 57-year-old Mr Leadbetter since Sunday, February 26, after family expressed concerns for his welfare.

Police diving units had been concentrating their search  on the River Tame near Longlands Mill on Queen Street, Mossley close to where Mr Leadbetter was last seen.

Police say they discovered the body  in the River Tame near to Spring Bank Lane in Mossley about half a mile downstream from Longlands Mill and are as yet treating the death as unexplained.

Formal ID has not yet taken place and enquiries are ongoing.
