Tuesday saw four of our teams in action.

Stalybridge Celtic made their exit from the FA Trophy. In a replay at Bower Fold Celtic fell two goals behind to Stocksbridge PS. Darren McKnight pulled one back, but the visitors went into the break with a 3-1 lead. Andy Owens halved the arrears shortly after half time. Despite significant Celtic pressure in the dying stages, they found the visitors keeper, Reay, in top form. A poor decision denied them a penalty when Jude Oyibo was upended, leaving Celtic ruing yet another early exit from a cup competition.

Hyde and Brighouse failed to trouble the scoresheet , as the Tigers ended with their second consecutive home scoreless draw. Mossley claimed a second home victory on the trot as a Mike Fish double saw off Bamber Bridge. The Lilywhites six point return this week has left them in 16th place. Defeat at Lancaster and the solitary point against Brighouse means Hyde have dropped to 18th – only 4 points above the drop zone.

Glossop made the lengthy trip to Stapenhill for a Derbyshire Senior Cup tie. Honours were even at full time with the sides sharing six goals. Jamie Rainford, with 2 penalties and Mark Reed were on target for the Hillmen. The penalty shoot out ended 5-4 in Glossop’s favour.
