Two Ashton women have pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of an elderly man who was attacked in the town last month.

But Megan Stafford, of Dean Street, and Amy Squires, of Coronation Road, both 37 years old, pleaded guilty to burglary when appearing at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester yesterday (Monday).

They were arrested by police and remanded in custody after the man, in his 70s, was hospitalised with multiple injuries after the attack at an address on Kings Road in the early hours of October 30.

Stafford and Squires will have to attend a further case management hearing on February 6, 2017, before a trial begins on April 24 – both set to be at Minshull Street Crown Court.
