A construction apprentice from Tameside College has been awarded the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award by his employer, Seddon Construction Ltd.

Jake Horoszczak is in his fourth year of his apprenticeship and has been recognised for his commitment and achievement as an apprentice.

Jake said: “I was really honoured to be nominated but to have won the ‘Apprentice of the Year’ Award is just amazing.

“I’m so happy to have won as it shows I’ve done a good job.

“I love working at Seddon, it’s a great place to work and they really look after their staff.

“I hope to have a long career with them.”

Jake started working at Seddon three years ago on a level 2 trowel occupations apprenticeship, he has since then progressed onto a level 3 in trowel occupations and plans now to do a HNC in Construction to further his skill set.

He has previously been presented with the ‘One to Watch’ award at Seddon’s presentation evening in 2015.

Tony Costello, Training and Development Manager at Seddon, said: “Jake is very hardworking and dedicated.

“He is a great role model for all of our apprentices and will go far at Seddon.

“This awards ceremony is a chance to reward the hard work apprentices put in every day.

“They are the company’s future and without their dedication we would not be able to deliver the high standard of work Seddon is known for across the UK.

“Seddon have been working with Tameside College for many years now and they have provided us with excellent candidates, I would definitely recommend them.”

Alison Lambourne, Business Development Adviser at Tameside College, said: “The sector is experiencing strong growth and needs young people to meet the demand for labour.

“Apprenticeships are a great way for young people to earn while they learn and it was fantastic to see the hard work of so many talented apprentices being celebrated here at the Seddon Awards.

“We’re so proud of Jake, he is a wonderful example of how much apprentices can accomplish in a short space of time.”
