Hyde United have completed the signing of defender Sam Heathcote on a month-long loan from National League North club Altrincham.

The 19-year-old is expected to go straight into Darren Kelly’s squad for Saturday’s league game against Ossett Albion at Ewen Fields (KO 15:00 GMT).

Heathcote – the son of former Altrincham player and manager Graham Heathcote – burst onto the scene after a dream debut for Alty in September 2015.

The teenager scored a memorable injury-time winner within minutes of coming on in a 2-1 victory over Cheltenham at Moss Lane, in front of his proud dad who watched from the stands.

But the player, who has been a regular in the Robins’ youth and reserves teams, has since found first-team football hard to come by.

Meanwhile, Heathcote senior was a goalscoring inside-right in the famed FA Cup giant-killing team of the 1970s and 80s before going on to serve as secretary, coach and manager in a 40-year association with the club.

The Tigers, who currently sit in 16th place in the Evo-Stik First Division North, ended a three-game winless run with a 2-1 win at Colne on Tuesday night.
