A popular Tameside Radio presenter is daring an 11,000ft drop by doing a sponsored skydive in aid of Willow Wood Hospice later this month.

Scott Bruton is throwing himself out of a plane – along with seven people he has never met before – at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Lancashire on Saturday 24th September.

Former X Factor contestant Scott, who presents Tameside Today on weekdays between 11am and 3pm, is aiming to raise £500 for the Ashton-based hospice – which provides palliative and end of life care to patients free of charge.

And the 27-year-old, who lives in Cavendish Mill in Ashton, can’t wait to feel the wind against his face.

He told the Reporter: “I was approached two or three months ago by John Fellowes [head of fundraising at Willow Wood Hospice] to do the skydive.

“I was a bit apprehensive at first but then after thinking about it I wanted to do it and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I can see why some people are petrified and it might be different when I’m up there but I have no fear and I can’t wait for it.

“My mum thinks I’m both brave and insane but my girlfriend Helen is really jealous because she wanted to do it too. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for years and is on my bucket list of things to do.”

Scott is very familiar with the amazing work of Willow Wood – his mum works there and the hospice has a regular weekly slot on his radio show to discuss their upcoming events.

He added: “I know a lot about their work – they provide a service for people at the end of their lives which is invaluable.

“The staff and volunteers work incredibly hard and it’s amazing to see their work first hand.

“Every penny counts but if I can raise even a few hundred pounds for the hospice it would be fantastic and make a huge difference.”

Scott has so far raised £150 and if you would like to make a donation you can visit his JustGiving page:
