Paul Phillips and Steve Halford have signed their first players for Stalybridge Celtic after taking up the vacant managerial position last Friday.

The duo signed from Ashton United and have brought Jay Gorton and Danny Wilkins with them.

Gorton is a vastly experienced defender and joins Celtic having made 138 appearances for the Robins.

A fans favourite, Gorton captained the side and scored 14 goals during his three years with the club.

Midfielder Wilkins made six appearances and scored one goal during his short stint with Ashton.

Ashton have temporarily replaced Phillips and Halford with Jody Banim and Will Haining.

The club have stated that they are in no rush to make an immediate appointment, and will be pleased to receive applications for the vacant post from interested parties.

If a permanent replacement isn’t found by Saturday, then the pair will take charge of Ashton’s Evo-Stik Premier fixture at Stafford Rangers.

Phillips and Halford marked their last game in charge of Ashton on Saturday with a 3-0 FA Cup defeat to Nantwich Town.

Celtic are hosting a ‘meet the managers’ evening at Bower Fold tonight.

The event is taking place in the social club from 7.30pm.
