Juvenile denies Stalybridge Park rape attempt

A teenager accused of attempting to rape a young mum has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to five charges put to him in connection with the attack in Stalybridge Country Park.

The assault happened in broad daylight, when the victim was out walking with her young child in the busy park and took place on August 22nd.

The  17-year-old youth, still a juvenile listened intently  to the charges as they were put to him in detail at Minshull Street Crown Court, today September 9th.

As the accused is still a juvenile he cannot be named for legal reasons.

As the court clerk read the charges  beginning with the attempted rape of the victim, he pleaded: ‘Not guilty’ and then followed ‘Not guilty’ pleas to three other counts of sexual assault ‘where he intentionally assaulted the victim, with out the victim’s consent and knowing that the victim had not consented to his actions”
He also entered a ‘Not guilty’  plea to a further, fifth charge of being in possession of a bladed or pointed article namely a pocket knife at Millbrook Dam in Staybridge.

The youth’s trial was set for  30th January 2017 and he was remanded back into custody.
