Police Appeal after Hyde Cyclist Knocked Off by Van

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was knocked off his bike by a van in Hyde.

Shortly after 12.20pm on Friday 17 June 2016, a 24 year old man was cycling on Manchester Road when a white van came up behind him and began to rev the engine.

In an attempt to ride away, the cyclist rode onto the pavement but the car also mounted the pavement and knocked him from his bike, before driving away.

The cyclist was taken to hospital where he was treated for a fractured knee and a head injury.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and has been bailed until 11/09/16.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Detective Constable Zoe Parker of GMP’s Tameside Borough said: “A man ended up in hospital with serious injuries after being knocked off his bike, the bike was also badly damaged.

“I would urge anyone who saw what happened to come forward, as you may have some information that could assist our investigation.”
