Greater Manchester Police has confirmed a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suscipion of aggravated burglary and released on police bail after a disabled pensioner was attacked in her Ashton home.

65-year-old Barbara Dransfield, who is wheelchair bound and has one leg, was left with a fractured skull and multiple facial injuries following the incident earlier this week.

She was struck with a baseball bat several times by masked men, two of which used a piece of stone to smash through the back door of her bungalow whilst her husband Leonard was working as a security guard.

Leonard rushed home to find his wife covered in blood after Barbara – who said the men demanded cash – managed to call him and say “help me, I’m being battered”.
