Two Manchester United fans had a lifelong dream of competing at Old Trafford realised last month.

Having won a competition at the beginning of May, Danny Orme and Brian Ogden were invited to compete alongside 35 other winners at the iconic stadium.

The former Audenshaw School pupils expressed their delight upon winning the competition.

Speaking to Reporter Sport, Danny, 24, said: “Winning the competition came as quite a shock to be honest.

“Like most people, I enter competitions but expect nothing in return.

“I was at work when i received the confirmation email, so it brightened my day to say the least.”

Despite their best efforts – which included travelling to London on the day – Danny and Brian were unsuccessful in their attempts to obtain an FA Cup final ticket.

However, Brian admitted that the experience of playing at Old Trafford numbed the disappointment. The 24-year-old said: “We were obviously disappointed at not getting our hands on FA Cup final tickets – especially given the victory!

“We still had a great time in London though, and knew that playing at Old Trafford would certainly make up for it.”

Upon arriving at Old Trafford, Danny and Brian were invited into the executive suite for a number of refreshments.

Appropriately fuelled for the big day, the pair were then introduced to their team mates and opposition.

Adorned in United’s new away strip – name and number included – Danny and Brian were managed by club legend Dennis Irwin.

Decked in red, the home side were under the guidance of fellow legend Gary Pallister.

Once the pre-match formalities were over, both sides emerged from the famous tunnel.

Nervous or excited? Danny explained: “I was excited more than anything to get out onto the pitch.

“All the lads were just as excited as us and seemed like great people.

“There was no pressure on any of us whatsoever.”

Brian added: “It was a strange feeling to walk out of the same tunnel which has seen legends like David Beckham pass through it.

“Like Danny, I was relishing the chance to score at the Stretford End.”

Despite their best efforts, the pair were unable to notch on the day.

However, once the game had finished, the pair were given the chance to analyse their performance on a big screen at Hotel Football.

Fronted by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, the four-star accommodation is literally a stone’s throw from Old Trafford.

Danny and Brian ended their memorable day by watching the championship play-off final with free food and drink.

Reflecting on the occasion, Danny concluded: “We both feel extremely privileged to have played on Old Trafford.

“The day will certainly live long in the memory.”
