Old Glossop scout hut needs help from an architect

Old Glossop’s Cubs and Scouts need help from an architect to design a new roof for their hut.

The 3rd Glossop’s Hope Street home has a channel in the middle which regularly leaks, damaging the inside of the building.

Group Scout leader Paul Bridges said: “A new roof will not only waterproof the building but also provide much needed storage space for equipment to give our Cubs and Scouts the challenges, adventures and experiences they need to help them develop as young people.”

The building has been used as a Scout hut for more than 50 years and is managed by the group.

Apart from the two churches, it is the only community building in Old Glossop village and is also used by other groups.

Local County Councillor, Damien Greenhalgh, visited the group recently to meet the Cubs, look at the hut and to offer his support:

He said: “As a former Scout myself, I realise the important of the Scouting Movement.

“The 3rd Glossop’s hut is a valuable community asset in need of attention, so I will be supporting them in every way I can to help improve the situation.”

The Cubs and Scouts have already started to fund-raise for the £20,000 expected costs of the project with a sponsored 20 mile hike around the Hope Valley.

Paul said: “It might seem a long way for eight and nine-year-olds to walk in a day.

“But these are 3rd Glossop Cubs and I’m sure they’ll surprise us all!”
