Freddie Mercury lookalike stars at Hadfield Carnival

Freddie Mercury sound and look-alike Karl Johnson certainly earned his money on Sunday.

The Real Magic tribute act was the main attraction at the annual Hadfield Carnival.

When the rain came down and brought a hurried end to the outdoor events, Karl was the only attraction.

With carnival-goers happily singing along in a marquee, Karl in a yellow jacket and white trousers, belted out Queen classics from a covered stage.

Because the carnival theme was the Queen’s 90th birthday, there were large as life cardboard cut-outs of Her Majesty and Prince Philip joining him on the stage!

Karl, one of Britain’s top Freddie Mercury tribute acts, got a great reception from locals who defied the rain to get down to the Pingot Lane field to party.

Work at the Hadfield campus of Glossopdale Community College had led to the switch from the carnival field there to Pinfold.

Before the rains came there was a fancy hat contest, circus skills and children’s games.

There was also a beer tent which kept going, even during the worst of the storms.

The driest place was the community room across Station Road in Hadfield Hall where there were various stalls at a carnival market.

There were also children’s games which included ‘Splat the Rat’.
