Fred Done, owner of Betfred, the world’s largest independent bookmaker and gaming company, has pledged his support for the Tour of Tameside, one of the biggest running challenges in British athletics.

Keen runner Fred is also Chairman of Sports Tours International, organisers of the 4 day running event, which will take place from Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th June 2016.

Fred has introduced a Golden Number meaning those who enter and run all four stages of the event will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win £1000 for their chosen charity. One lucky race number will be announced at the final awards presentation on Sunday 19th June and Fred will present the winner with their cheque.

Fred, who competed in the original Tour of Tameside five times, commented: “The Tour of Tameside is a tough challenge but it doesn’t matter how fast you are – if you take part in each stage of the Tour you could have the lucky golden number. It’s great to see so many people fundraising for charity and I’ve introduced the golden number to support those running for good causes.”

Runners who take on all four days will cover the distance of one and a half marathons, with each day covering different routes and types of terrain across a mixture of closed roads, trails and country routes.

Local organisations supporting the event include Kerry Foods, New Charter Homes, Active Tameside, Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.

Charity partners include Willow Wood, The Anthony Seddon Fund and Believe and Achieve. Runners can also run in aid of their own chosen charity.
