Elderly Woman Injured During Ashton Robbery

A man has been arrested after an 84-year-old woman was left with a fractured face and fractured arm during a robbery at her home.

The break-in happened on Elizabeth Street at around 2am on Easter Monday morning.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 2am on Monday 28 March 2016, the victim was alone in her home on Elizabeth Street when she was assaulted and robbed by a man who had broken in while she slept.

“She has subsequently undergone treatment for a fractured arm, facial fractures and severe bruising.

“A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and remains in police custody for questioning after magistrates granted officers further time to question the suspect.

“The investigation is on-going.”
