Dukinfield Marlins were delighted to welcome Olympic swimmer and Commonwealth silver medallist, Michael Rock, to the club on Saturday, February 13th.

22 swimmers attended a special swim clinic hosted by Michael focusing on Butterfly technique.

After the initial welcome to Michael from the club members, Michael joined everyone for a group photo and then talked the swimmers through the warm up he wanted to see.

Whilst everyone was in the water, Michael watched all the swimmers and as the session progressed, he was able to offer help and advice to the swimmers.

Michael demonstrated core strengthening drills, turns and catches in the water and watched the swimmers as they followed his demonstrations.

For their part, all of our swimmers showed Marlins in the best possible light by being extremely attentive to everything they were told and shown and worked their hardest to practice new skills and improve their technique.

Although it was a tough job to pick out an individual for Michael, one swimmer, Hannah Hopwood, was deservedly awarded a special Michael Rock swimming cap for the efforts she displayed in the pool which Michael signed for her.

The time went all too quickly and after the session had ended, Michael kindly came back onto poolside to allow everyone to get photographs and autographs with him, telling Marlins coaches and volunteers that they were a great bunch of kids.

The club would like to extend it’s thanks to Michael and partner, Abbie Lockitt, for coming to work with the swimmers and for capturing the event on camera too during the afternoon. If other clubs would like to contact Michael with a view to hosting a similar swim clinic of their own, you can visit Michael’s website,, and arrange your very own swim clinic with him.

The club would also like to say thank you and well done to all the swimmers who attended the swim clinic. You were all incredibly hard working, put in 100% effort and were a credit to the club!

We knew that you were all super excited about the prospect of working with Michael and you were all fantastic!

Keep up the hard work and the training because it’s paying off as the squad’s win in it’s first Junior League gala of the season on February 22nd demonstrated!
