Manchester motorcycle ace Adam Gittings has hit the Spanish sunshine to help hone his preparations for what he hopes will be a memorable 2016.

The 22-year-old from Hyde is preparing for his second full year competing in the Thundersport GB Championship at the major British motorsport venues.

Gittings – who has recently extended his sponsorship deal with leading builders merchant Selco Builders Warehouse – has been able to fund the purchase of a new Suzuki GSX-R600 bike for his Pre-National Sport 600 campaign.

And Gittings returned from Spain this week confident he can enjoy a successful year on the Thundersport GB circuit.

The 2014 Preston and District Motorcycle Club Pre-Injection champion, said: “It was great to have the chance to get over to Spain and have a good few days testing.

“We learned a lot about the bike. There were one or two issues with power but we are confident they can be sorted quickly.

The really pleasing thing is that the bike was superb to handle and I got a really good feel for it.”

Gittings is hoping to prove a regular fixture in the points in 2016. He added: “Last year was very much a learning curve for me in Thundersport GB.

“It was a big step up from anything I’d done previously and there were plenty of things I’ve learned about the different tracks and competing at that level.

“It was an up and down season – things were progressing well at the start but then I had four crashes in the space of three rounds and had to go to hospital twice.

“It affected my fitness and, looking back, my confidence too. But I got my confidence back and to finish in the points in the last race of the season at Cadwell Park was a real boost.

“I didn’t really want the season to end when it did but now I’m really looking forward to 2016.

“The aim for me is to finish in the points every race this season. It’s going to be tough to do that because it’s very competitive and everyone has bad days, but that will be my target every time I start a race.”

Helen Gemmell, marketing director for Selco – which has 40 branches around the UK including three in Manchester at Ardwick, Ashton Moss and Baguley – said: “We are delighted to be backing Adam for a second season.

“There were some difficult moments for him last season but he showed great resilience to get back on the bike and fight to the end.

“Just before the crashes and again at the end of the season, Adam was in the points and pushing for the top 10 and that is exciting in terms of what he could achieve in 2016.”

Gittings will attend the official Thundersport GB testing event at Donington on Saturday February 20 before the first event of the season held on the weekend of March 5 and 6 at Brands Hatch.
