Remembrance Parades and Services

Everyone is invited to attend this year’s Remembrance Parades and Services to pay their respects to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country in two world wars and more recent conflicts.

Thousands of residents are expected to take part this Remembrance Sunday, with services also taking place today in Audenshaw and Droylsden plus on Remembrance Day itself, Wednesday, November 11.

Tomorrow Tameside Radio will host a two-hour Reporter Remembrance show starting at 1pm with reports from local parades, Reporter headlines from the Front 100 years ago and other special Remembrance reports.

Service and Parades 2015

Remembrance Sunday, November 8

Ashton Central

Parade will assemble on Market Street (on the pedestrianised area at the side of Ashton Market Hall) at 9am and proceed via Bow Street, George Street, Stamford Street and Grey Street to Ashton Parish Church for a Remembrance Service at 9.45am. At the conclusion of the Church Service, the Parade will re-assemble on Stamford Street and proceed to the War Memorial in St Michael’s Square via the Telephone Exchange roundabout and Mossley Road for a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 10.45am. The Adamson Band will lead the Parade. At the conclusion of the Wreath Laying Ceremony, the Parade will return to Market Street via the same route.

Cockbrook

Service in St Gabriel’s Church at 10.55am followed by a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 12.30pm at the War Memorial at the side of the church. Lees Band to be in attendance at the Wreath Laying Ceremony.

Hurst

Service in St John’s Church at 9.30am followed by a Procession via King’s Road to the War Memorial in Hurst Cemetery for a Wreath Laying Ceremony and planting of personal poppies at 11am.

Park Bridge

Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial in the grounds of Park Bridge Institute at 10.45am.

Waterloo

Parade will assemble at Canon Burrows Primary School at 2pm and will proceed to the War Memorial on Oldham Road for a Service of Remembrance at 2.30pm. Christ Church Ashton Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade and the Band of West Hill School will be in attendance.

Audenshaw

Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony to be held at the War Memorial in Audenshaw Cemetery at 3pm. To be conducted by the Rev J Kershaw. There will be no Parade but the St John’s (Mossley) Band will be in attendance to play for hymns.

Denton Central

First Parade assembly at 10am outside the Denton West End Working Men’s Club on Grosvenor Street. The Parade will leave the club at 10.10am proceeding via Grosvenor Street, Seymour Street, Manchester Road and Market Street to the Remembrance Garden where the Parade will stop briefly to present a wreath to a member of the District Assembly staff to lay in the Remembrance Garden before continuing to Denton Town Hall. The Parade will then re-assemble at Denton Town Hall at 10.20am and proceed via Market Street, Duke Street, Stockport Road, Manchester Road and Gould Street to the War Memorial in Victoria Park for a Service of Remembrance at 10.45am. Service to be conducted by the Rev J Kershaw. The Ashton-under-Lyne Band will be in attendance. At the conclusion of the Service, the Parade will return to the Denton West End Working Men’s Club via Victoria Street, Acre Street, Duke Street, Stockport Road, Manchester Road, Seymour Street and Grosvenor Street.

Haughton Green

Service of Remembrance in St Mary’s Church, starting at 10.30am. To be followed by a short Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial on the south side of the Church.

Denton West

Wreath laying ceremony to be held at the Memorial in Thornley Park at 1.30pm.

Droylsden

Parade will assemble on Church Street and will depart at 10am proceeding via Market Street, Greenside Lane, Manor Road and Cemetery Road to the Droylsden War Memorial for a Remembrance Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony at 10.45am. The St John’s Church Band will be in attendance. At the conclusion of the Service, the Parade will proceed via Cemetery Road and Manchester Road to Villemomble Square for dismissal. Refreshments will be served in the Concord Suite to those taking part.

Dukinfield

Parade will assemble at the Town Hall, King Street, Dukinfield at 2.30pm for departure at 2.45pm proceeding via King Street, Astley Street and Crescent Road to the War Memorial at Chapel Hill for a Remembrance Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony at 3pm. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, the Parade will return to the Town Hall via Chapel Street where refreshments will be served to those taking part. The Adamson Band will lead the Parade.

Hyde Central

Parade will assemble in Greenfield Street at 2pm and proceed via Market Street, Union Street, Travis Street, Mount Street, Ridling Lane, Frank Street, Orchard Street, John Shepley Street, Mottram Road, Union Street, Travis Street, Reynold Street and Crook Street to Hyde Central Methodist Church for a Remembrance Service at 2.30pm. At the conclusion of the Service, the Parade will return to Hyde Town Hall via Crook Street, Union Street and Market Street for a Wreath Laying Ceremony at approximately 3.30pm. The Ashton-under-Lyne Band will lead the Parade. At the conclusion of this event, wreaths will be laid at the Falklands Tree Memorial on Stockport Road.

Newton

Parade will depart Rosemount Methodist Church at 10am and proceed to the War Memorial at the George & Dragon Square, Bennett Street for a short Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony commencing at 10.15am. At the conclusion of the Service the Parade will return to Rosemount Methodist Church via the same route to disperse. The St John’s (Mossley) Band will be in attendance.

Werneth

A procession will assemble at the Visitors Centre, Higham Lane departing at 11.45am for the Cenotaph on Werneth Low where a short Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held at 12noon (Vehicular access will be made available). The Band of West Hill School will be in attendance.

Longdendale Broadbottom

Parade to assemble at Broadbottom Community Centre at 10.30am and to proceed to the War Memorial via Lower Market Street, Market Street and Mottram Road. An Act of Remembrance will be held at the War Memorial at 10.45am. At the conclusion of the event, the Parade will return to the Community Centre via the same route.

Hollingworth

Remembrance Service at St Mary’s Church at 10am to be followed by a March to the War Memorial, Mottram Moor for a Wreath Laying Ceremony at 10.50am. The Mossley Hollins High School Band and Christ Church Ashton Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade will be in attendance. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, the Parade will return to Church via the same route.

Mottram

Service of Remembrance will be held in Mottram Parish Church at 10.30am.

Mossley

Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony to commence at 10.45am at the War Memorial, Mossley Town Hall, Mossley Bottom Park. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, there will be a Procession to the George Lawton Hall via Stamford Road and Stamford Street where refreshments will be available. Mossley Band will be in attendance.

Stalybridge

Parade will assemble in Armentieres Square at 10.25am and will proceed at 10.35am via Trinity Street, Grosvenor Street, Melbourne Street, Market Street, King Street, Waterloo Road and Trinity Street to the War Memorial for a Remembrance Service and Wreath Laying Ceremony at 10.55am. The Stalybridge Old Band will lead the parade. At the conclusion of the Ceremony, the Parade will return to Armentieres Square via Trinity Street. Light refreshments will be served inside the Civic Hall to those taking part.

Glossop

The service will take place at the Cenotaph. A parade to the Cenotaph will leave the Market Place at 10.50am. The service will be attended by the Deputy Lieutenant, Mr David Holtom, and the Deputy Mayor of High Peak Councillor Colin Boynton. It will be conducted by Father Gregory Tobin and Rev Norman Shaw. Following the service, the procession will re-form and proceed to the Market Ground. Refreshments will be available at Bradbury Community House. Music will be provided by Glossop Old Band.

Hadfield

Those attending the service in Hadfield are invited to join former High Peak Mayor Councillor Pat Jenner at a morning service at St Andrew’s Church at 10am conducted by Rev Felicity Walters. Following the church service, those attending will walk to the Cenotaph for the service at 10.50am which will be conduced by Rev Walters and Rev Helen Stubbs. Refreshments will then be served in the Community Room, Hadfield Hall, Hadfield.

Wednesday, November 11

Ashton  Central

Act of Remembrance to be held at the ‘Family Statue’ on Market Street/Fletcher Street (pedestrianised area at the side of Ashton Market Hall). The ceremony will include a two-minute silence at 11am.

Hyde Godley

Service of Remembrance and Wreath Laying Ceremony to be held at the War Memorial on Godley Hill Road at 10.50am.

• St Paul’s Church, Stalybridge, is hosting two services this Sunday. The Remembrance Service starts at 10.30am, while the evening service, which is being held for bereaved families, is taking place at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to join the commemorations.
