Guardofhonour

Hundreds of Greater Manchester firefighters formed a guard of honour in a touching farewell to their colleague Lee Gaunt yesterday.

The 41-year-old’s funeral was held at 11am at St John’s Church in Dukinfield, with firefighters lining Vicarage Road in a final salute to the Stalybridge crew manager.

The funeral procession was led by a standard bearer and piper.

Lee was a huge Manchester City fan and his family requested those who would like to pay their respects take white and blue flowers to his funeral.

Fire crews across Greater Manchester also observed a minute’s silence at their posts in memory of Lee to coincide with the funeral service.

The father-of-two’s body was found in the early hours of October 18 at Stalybridge Fire Station where he had been on duty.
