Ashton Market’s recent sci-fi event has been hailed a huge success raising £250 for the charity Dream Flights.

Star Wars mania descended with the fundraising 99th Garrison storm troopers on parade to raise the funds for the charity, which sends seriously ill children on holidays of a lifetime.

Andrew Crombie, proprietor of the Time Tunnel stall in the market hall at Ashton Market, organised the event which included a toys and collectables fair with stalls and also fairground rides.

“The day went really well and now we will be planning similar big events following its success,” said Andrew.

Special guest on the day was make-up artist Shaune Harrison who worked on films like Captain America and the Harry Potter series.

Andrew is already planning a follow-up event to coincide with the completion of the market ground next year.

Hyde Fundraisers also held their sci-fi event at the Ladysmith on the same day to bring Ashton shoppers an out-of-this-world experience, although both events were organised and held separately for their respective charities.
