The Tameside Christmas Toy Appeal was officially launched at the weekend to bring festive cheer to local children who otherwise might receive nothing.

Your Tameside Reporter, Tameside Radio 103.6FM and insidetameside.com are proud to have joined forces with Tameside4Good and Tameside Council’s Early Help Team to ensure this Christmas is extra special for those children most in need this year.
The appeal officially launched with a roadshow on Saturday at Asda Ashton, supported by Tameside Rotarty and Tameside Radio, with even an appearance from Tameside Radio Ted in his Christmas costume who proved a big hit with the children, not forgetting of course Santa himself.
We are appealing for the whole Tameside community to rally round to make this Christmas one to remember for a Tameside child living in poverty in our borough. The sad reality is that some children won’t wake up to find presents under a brightly lit tree.
But with your support, the Tameside Christmas Toy Appeal can change this.

Amy Watson, Tameside 4 Good development worker, said: “We’re really pleased that many local businesses are keen to come together to help local families who are struggling. The toys will be given to children and young people in need and we know at this time of year this really makes a difference. Together, we can make Christmas special for every child living in Tameside.”
Can you donate a new, unwrapped toy to make a Tameside child smile this Christmas?
If you can afford just one extra toy, please donate it to the Tameside Christmas Toy Appeal this year. The appeal is especially for children and young people, from newborns to 18-year-olds, who otherwise may not receive a present at all.
Gift ideas: Children 0-3yrs: rattles, books, building blocks, playsets. Children 4-12yrs: board games, books, craft sets, educational toys. Teenagers: toiletries gift sets, books, creative and science toys, gift vouchers. All ages: pyjamas, scarves, gloves and hats, slipper socks.
Should you wish to make a donation of cash it will be added to the Tameside 4 Good grants for individuals to help disadvantaged young people, aged five to 25 years, living in Tameside to make their dreams a reality. Please make any cheques payable to ‘Tameside 4 Good’ – they will then be used to relieve the financial burden of aspirational young people and empower them to reach their full potential.
Please note, for ‘elf’ and safety reasons, second hand or soft toys cannot be accepted. The toys will be sorted by age groups and gender then wrapped by a team local of elf volunteers.
Run by Tameside 4 Good, Tameside Reporter, Tameside Radio and Tameside Council’s Early Help Team, all toys donated will be distributed to Tameside children living in poverty.
Donation centres: Many businesses have rallied round – like Asda Ashton – to become donation centres for toys for the campaign. But more are still needed – if you can help, visit the website below or call Amy on 0161 339 4985 (ext 2012)

The launch of the appeal on Saturday proved a big hit, with many donations being made by generous members of the public for Tameside Rotary plus a trolley being filled with new toys for the appeal.
The trolley is now located inside Asda Ashton for more donations and we would like to thank everyone who gave so generously on the day.
Watch out for more toy appeal roadshows coming your way throughout the coming months.
