Holocaust survivor Martin Stern visited Ashton to share his harrowing stories about his experiences in World War Two and explore the reasons behind the genocide.

He spoke with students at Ashton Sixth Form College.

Martin now works for the Holocaust Educational Trust and begins each of his talks by explaining why it will be different than most talks by holocaust survivors.

He said: “Talks by Holocaust survivors tell you what happened to one person or a family caught up in the Holocaust.

“Have you noticed there’s something missing? Why do things like that happen?

“If we don’t understand that properly, are we likely to be able to do the right thing to stop them happening again?”

You can read more about Martin in this week’s (9th April) Tameside Reporter out now.
