A new group is continuing to appeal to young members of the community who want to bring the rhythms of Africa, Brazil and the Caribbean to Tameside.

The Vale Music Ensemble is a brand new music-making venture for 11 to 18-year-olds, featuring steel pans and Afro-Brazilian percussion alongside guitar, bass and drums. Vocalists, brass and saxophone players are also required, with an induction day taking place later this month ready for a summer performance.

Based at The Vale community arts centre in Mossley, which fully opens this summer, the project offers opportunities for both experienced and new musicians and singers.

There are no auditions, but participants will need to sign up and commit to attending six weekly rehearsals and three weekend sessions in Mossley.

Applications are online at www.vale-music.co.uk.

More on this in this week’s Tameside Reporter out now.
