SAVED BY THE BELL? Tameside Reporter editor Nigel Skinner takes a closer look at the St George’s Church bells at a recent heritage open day, but which could fall silent if more bell ringers are not found soon.

The appeal comes as St George’s Church struggles to regularly pull in the number of ringers required to ring the church’s bells.

“There are a lot of bells but not enough ringers,” said Ann Wigley, herself a bell ringer at the church.

“At the moment we have just about enough ringers to keep the tradition of informing of worship going.”

If you can help and would like to try bell ringing, please ring Ann on 07816 457653.
