For the Dukinfield Community Ladies Group will be getting together with friends for a cuppa and a piece of cake on Friday (September, 19) all in the name of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The official coffee morning, annually billed as the biggest in the world, takes place the following Friday (September 26) but group member Cllr Jackie Lane, of the Dukinfield ward, was eager to kick-start the fundraising in Tameside early.

“Macmillan is a fantastic charity and I wanted to get the word out there early,” she said.

“I know a lot of people and businesses will be doing something on the official day, but by doing it one week early it gives us a chance to get the ball rolling early here in Tameside.

“It’s always fantastically supported and I hope that once again, the morning will bring us a step closer to Macmillan being able to continue their superb work in helping someone on their cancer journey.”

Cllr Lane, a long-term Macmillan supporter, is hoping that the turnout from the community will be a large one and is encouraging the community, regardless of age, to show their support next Friday.

She told us: “This is a once a year event and there will be everything from cakes to tombola, with all of the funds we raise going to Macmillan.

“No matter what your age, come and pop down and come and help us raise a fantastic sum.”

Cllr Lane added: “We’ve had a lot of help already, from the group, volunteers, New Charter, now we just need yours.”

The Dukinfield Community Ladies Group will be hosting their coffee morning at Lakeswood, Church Street, in Dukinfield from 10am until 12 noon next Friday.
