A man has been jailed after a vicious assault in Tameside.

Daniel Browne (27/08/1989) of St Marys Road, Hyde was found guilty of section 18 assault and was sentenced today, Monday 7 July 2014, at Minshull Street Crown Court to five years.

On Saturday 13 July 2013, the 28-year-old victim had been enjoying a barbecue before he and friends decided to buy some alcohol from a nearby minimarket.

After he bought what he wanted, he walked outside the shop on Acresfield Road, Hyde and was approached by Browne.

Without provocation, Browne punched him in the face, causing him to stumble backwards. He then threw him to the floor before he started to punch and kick him in the head during the attack Following the assault, Browne left.

Detective Constable Wayne Marshall from Tameside South INPT said: “For a reason only known to Browne he decided to attack a man who used to be his friend.

“He delivered a sustained assault, punching and kicking him with such force, he suffered a depressed fracture underneath his eye socket. This was obviously very painful and required surgery.

“Now Browne will be spending time behind bars and will have a lot of time to think about the unnecessary pain he caused that evening.”
