This week is Scout Community Week and this year will see the 3rd Ashton (St. James’) Scout Group playing a unique part by commemorating the fallen in this special anniversary year.

Scout Community Week sees scouts nationwide getting involved in their local communities in various projects which bring together and involve their communities in different ways.

This year the 3rd Ashton are remembering the men of St. James’ Parish who paid the ultimate sacrifice in both world wars.

The Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Leaders are working hard to make 150 special poppies, along with a display board entitled ‘The Field’.

The poppies when completed will be put onto the field, each bearing an individual’s name of one of the fallen, taken from the Window of Remembrance sited inside St. James’ Church.

More on this in this week’s (5th June) Tameside Reporter.
