Two female students from Hyde Community College have been arrested for bringing a knife into the school.
A letter was written to parents said that one student brought in the blade and then passed it to the other to hide in a bag.
The girls believed to be 12 and 14 were said to be picked up quickly and the incident investigated.
The two were arrested on site and are not currently in school.
In a letter sent home to parents headteacher Denise Spence said: “We realise that rumours and press coverage of the tragic event in Leeds earlier in the week may unsettle parents and students but please be reassured that our school is safe and as a school we are taking this isolated incident seriously.”
There will be more on this story in next week’s (8th May) Tameside Reporter.
