Dolly Dollygone

A Tameside family is on a mission to find their missing sheep.

Dolly the Sheep was taken from her Mossley home just one week ago.

She may only be plastic, but she has a special place in her family’s hearts.

For Dolly’s owner Rachael Hirst lived with her family for many years in Italy on a sheep farm and won Dolly in a raffle when they first moved back to Mossley five years ago.

Rachael said: “We had only been back for two months and we were in Stalybridge and bought some raffle tickets.

“I thought it would be lovely to win because it would remind the kids of home and then lo and behold we won it!

“I thought it was destiny, that she was meant to be with us, so we called her Dolly and she’s been part of the family. I know it sounds stupid because she’s not real but that’s the way it was.”

Dolly always attracted a lot of attention after being placed in the family’s garden, which backs onto the canal.

The family are desperate to have Dolly back and are trying to make light of the situation. Rachael has even referred to herself as a real life Little Bo Peep.

She said: “I am trying to make light of it, but it does unnerve you, having someone come onto your property and take something of yours.

“It’s not so much the value, it’s the fact that it’s so easy for people to come and just invade your own personal space.
