Championships.

Despite being the second youngest in the group, Eric defeated three of the top four seeded junior players before narrowly losing out in the final.

This was a great comeback from the disappointment of the previous week’s Cadet (under-18) National Championships, where Eric failed to reach the final for the first time in eight years, and he had to settle for the bronze medal.

A silver medal at the Junior National’s however secured Eric a coveted place, for the second successive year, on the 2014 Great Britain Junior Squad.

In his own Cadet (u18) age band, Eric has a clear lead on the European Cadet Championship qualification ranking list.

With one event to go, it is impossible for him to be overtaken which should hopefully secure him a place to represent Great Britain at this year’s championships to be held in Athens, Greece.

Before that Eric will compete on the World Cadet Tour at events in Portugal, Romania and the Czech Republic.

Eric was also recently selected to represent England at the first World Junior Tour event to be held in Portugal.

Eric currently mixes his A level study at Aquinas College, Stockport with three days full time training at the new state of the art British Judo Centre of Excellence at the University of Wolverhampton.

Opened in 2013, it is a full time training centre for young British fighters looking to compete in either the 2016 or 2020 Olympic Games.

As the youngest player on the programme, Eric travels down Tuesday afternoon and trains full time until Friday night.

Most weekends are then spent either competing or on training camps.
