Hyde United 0-2 Bamber Bridge

Hyde have suffered back-to-back defeats after losing 2-0 to relegation threatened Bamber Bridge at Ewen Fields.

The visitors boosted their survival chances thanks to goals from Kieran Charnock in the 49th minute and an Alistair Waddecar penalty in the 68th minute.

Although Hyde are destined for a mid-table finish, the result has huge implications for local rivals Stalybridge Celtic, who are now just three points above the relegation zone and face Hyde at Ewen Fields in the penultimate game of the season.

Despite losing the game, Hyde looked dangerous on the counter attack but were ultimately unable to convert their chances. The visitors belied their league position and took the lead in the early stages of the second half when Charnock rose highest to power home from close range and give the Lancashire outfit the lead.

Charnock almost grabbed his second in the 60th minute after forcing Crook to tip over acrobatically. However, Bamber didn’t  have to wait too long to secure that turned out to be the winning goal. The referee was left with no choice but to award a penalty after Waddecar was brought down inside the box. The striker stepped up and sent Crook the wrong way.

Hyde rarely threatened to pull a goal back in the final 20 minutes and Bamber held out to secure a vital three points.

In other news at Ewen Fields, defender Jordan  Fagbola took the plaudits at the club’s awards night. He scooped the Manager’s Player and Players’ Player awards. Tom Pratt. Striker Tom Pratt won the Supporters’ Player award.
